Arrest in weekend shooting that killed two-year-old girl

CHESTER, Pa. — A “male suspect” is in custody after Sunday afternoon’s triple shooting into a home that killed a two-year-old girl.

Late Tuesday night, police said the suspect was caught in Chester, Delaware County. He had not been formally charged, so details including his name were not available.

Police have said on Sunday, Oct. 20, at about 3:30pm, officers responded to the crime scene on the 3300 block of N. Water Street in Kensington. They found the shooting victims inside.

According to the preliminary investigation, the little girl’s mother and grandmother were having the home’s carpets cleaned, and watching several small children.

That’s when people outside

“opened fire with an assault rifle through the front door and front windows, striking all three victims and leaving six identifiable bullet holes in the front of the structure.”

Nikolette Rivera, 2, “sustained a catastrophic head wound and was pronounced dead at the scene,” ten minutes later.

Nikolette’s mother had been holding her daughter at the time of the shooting.

That 24-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital. She’d been hit by a bullet in her left arm, and suffered a graze wound to her head.

The third victim was a 33-year-old man who was cleaning carpets inside. He was shot in his abdomen, and is listed in critical-but-stable condition.

Detectives and crime scene unit workers recovered six 7.62×39 fired rifle casings in the street, directly in front of the house.

Also, several blocks east, detectives are looking into

“a possible connection to a shooting that occurred on the 400 block of E. Clearfield Street, eight minutes prior to the homicide.”

In the earlier shooting, they say two

“males opened fire on a black SUV using an assault rifle and a .40 caliber handgun. Detectives recovered ten 7.62×39 fired rifle casings and one .40 caliber FCC [fired cartridge casing].”

A comparison could confirm the connection.
