PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia Police Department homicide detective is in trouble with the law, and so is a relarive who works for SEPTA.
The police department reports Det. Nathaniel Williams was arrested at about 11:10am Thursday after the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office got a warrant.
According to the DAO, his arrest stems from a Special Investigations Unit
“criminal investigation that was initiated when a female complainant alleged she was being stalked and harassed by Edward Williams, a SEPTA employee” and also a relative of the detective.
Edward Williams is charged with unsworn falsification to authorities and obstructing administration of law or other governmental function.
Det. Williams faces the same two charges, plus tampering with public records or information, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
According to the department, he is 48 years old, a 26-year veteran of the department and was most recently assigned to the Homicide Unit.

Acting Police Commissioner Christine Coulter suspended him for 30 days with the intent to dismiss, at the end of that time.
Det. Williams’ arrest was one of two at the department on this day. It came just over an hour before Officer Charles Myers was arrested.
The DAO added,
“Information about criminal activity involving public officials or public employees may be reported to the DAO SIU hotline: 215–686–9608.”
