PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia Police Department narcotics officer is in trouble with the law.
The department reports Officer Charles Myers was arrested at about 12:25pm Thursday.
He is charged with perjury, tampering with records and unsworn falsification.
Officer Myers’ arrest came after the Internal Affairs Division got a warrant.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, the charges stem
“from a March 24, 2017, incident in which two people were searched and arrested at a gas station at 7000 Castor Avenue.
“In sworn testimony provided in court on May 16, 2017, Officer Myers made statements regarding incidents leading to the arrests and narcotics and firearms charges that were eventually disproven by video evidence. The District Attorney’s Office (DAO) then withdrew the charges filed against the two defendants.”
Acting Police Commissioner Christine Coulter suspended him for 30 days with the intent to dismiss, at the end of that time.
According to the department, Officer Myers is 47 years old and a 20-year veteran of the department.
The DAO reports he was most recently assigned to the FBI Narcotics Field Unit. It adds,
“Information about criminal activity involving public officials or public employees may be reported to the DAO SIU [Special Investigations Division] hotline: 215–686–9608.”

Officer Myers’ arrest was one of two at the department on this day. It came just over an hour after Det. Nathaniel Williams was arrested.
