Feds: Escaped bank robber told teller he had a bomb

NORTHERN LIBERTIES — A bank robber struck a PNC Bank branch, late Friday afternoon, and now both the FBI and Philadelphia Police Violent Crimes Task Force are asking if you recognize the man in the pictures.

The robbery happened at the PNC branch at 510 N. 6th Street, on the corner of Spring Garden Street.

“At approximately 4:45pm, the subject entered the bank, approached the counter, and presented a teller with a demand note, which claimed he had a bomb,” according to authorities. “No bomb was displayed or observed.”

The teller gave the robber “an undisclosed amount of cash” and he ran away from the area.

The person wanted is described as approximately 5’7” to 5’8” tall, with a medium build, bald head and beard.

He was wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans, blue sneakers, a backpack and glasses.

The FBI and Philadelphia Violent Crimes Task Force are urging anyone with information about the robbery or the person in the pictures to call them at 215-418-4000.

A reward is being offered for information leading to his capture; however, give information rather than approach because he’s considered armed and dangerous.

Authorities say tipsters can remain anonymous.
