Last day to adopt a 4-legged friend for free as part of #ACCTtotheFuture

FELTONVILLE — Looking to adopt a new four-legged best friend? Sunday, Oct. 6, will be the last day to do so for free!

ACCT Philly, the city’s animal shelter, has been waiving all adoption fees for more than a week as part of its #ACCTtotheFuture campaign. (The campaign was originally set to be last weekend only.)

The more dogs and cats adopted should mean better conditions for those that remain — not to mention permanent loving families for the adoptees!

It’ll also help ACCT Philly conduct intensive staff training and make major changes to shelter management procedures.

The animals must be adopted from the shelter’s main facility at 111. W. Hunting Park Avenue in Feltonville.

You must bring an up-to-date photo ID, and additional proof of address (such as a lease or water bill) if the address listed on your ID is outdated, in order to adopt.

ACCT Philly requires children in the house to meet potential dog adoptees, and strongly recommends bringing any resident dogs to meet potential new dog family members. Also, Philadelphia residents must buy a Philadelphia dog license at the time of adoption.

ACCT Philly is the city’s only open-intake shelter, which means animals enter in all states of health, injury and behavior.

The facility takes in more than 18,000 animals annually, and serves as both a stray animal holding facility and pet adoption center.

If you can’t make this free event, ACCT Philly is open daily — weekdays, 1-8pm; and weekends and holidays, 10am-5pm.

Plus, it has offsite locations at three area pet shops.
