Video: Man caught on camera lurking inside, stealing from local school

NORTH PHILADELPHIA — People working at a local school should’ve learned a lesson when a man got in after-hours “through an unlocked door,” according to Philadelphia police — spent a lot of time there — and didn’t leave empty-handed.

It started at 11:15pm on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

The man got inside KIPP Philadelphia Preparatory Academy at 2539 N. 16th Street, near Cumberland in North Philadelphia.

Police say,

“Over the course of several hours, the male stole multiple laptops and Microsoft tablets, then fled the area in an unknown direction.”

Security cameras were able to get some good images of him during all that time.

WANTED: edited from Philadelphia Police Department

The suspect is described as about 50 years old with a thin build, dark complexion, beard and mustache.

He was wearing a green Eagles hat, black hooded sweatshirt, blue pants and dark-colored shoes.

Police ask that if you recognize or see the suspect, do not approach him. Instead, call 911 or their tip line immediately. You can also email, text a tip to PPD TIP or 773847, or click here to submit a tip electronically. They say all tips will remain anonymous.

KIPP stands for Knowledge is Power Program and runs four other charter schools here: KIPP Philadelphia School and DuBois Collegiate Academy in Parkside, KIPP Philadelphia Elementary Academy in Nicetown-Tioga, and KIPP West Philadelphia Preparatory Charter School in Southwest Philadelphia.
